About Shiatzu
Shiatsu The Japanese Therapy from the 20th Century
Shiatsu is a therapy originating in Japan and a descendant of the Chinese tradition. Practiced since the early 20th century, when Tokujiro Namikoski developed a pressure technique with the use of his thumbs and palms to treat the rheumatoid arthritis that his mother suffered.
It is based on getting the proper channeling of vital energy by applying pressure to certain key point of our body. This energy is channeled through the meridians.
Shiatsu is also related to other Eastern practices such as Tai Chi or yoga. All of them are trying to get us to keep the body in a correct position and to make both our movements and our breath in a conscientious and accurate manner.
With this in mind, if you apply some pressure on the meridians through the palms and fingers of the hands, especially the thumbs, you can redirect and improve circulation of energy and, therefore, our health.
